Content standards
Birby is a curated network of wholesome, general-audience live programming for adults. Every program is reviewed against these standards before it airs.
We evaluate what is broadcast — the content, themes and conduct of a show — and apply the same bar to everyone.
A note on who is welcome
These standards are about content, not identity. Hosts, guests and viewers are welcome regardless of race, religion, nationality, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or any other personal characteristic. We do not screen, question, or judge people for who they are. We judge programs by what airs on them.
The bar
Programming must be wholesome and appropriate for a general adult audience: family-friendly in character, even though the platform is 18+. In practice that means keeping the tone clean and welcoming rather than coarse or explicit.
Not permitted
- Sexual or suggestive content. No nudity, sexual acts, sexually explicit or suggestive discussion, or content whose primary appeal is sexual.
- Graphic violence or gore. No depictions of real or simulated graphic violence, injury, or cruelty.
- Profanity and crude content. No strong profanity, obscene gestures, or vulgar content. Keep language appropriate for a general audience.
- Substance content. No promotion or on-screen use of illegal drugs; no glorification of excessive alcohol or substance abuse.
- Hate and harassment. No content that attacks, demeans, or dehumanizes people based on a protected characteristic; no bullying or targeted harassment.
- Dangerous content. No instructions for weapons, self-harm, or other activities likely to cause serious harm; no content promoting dangerous challenges.
- Illegal content or activity. Nothing unlawful, and nothing that facilitates it.
- Deceptive content. No scams, fraudulent claims, or impersonation of others.
- Regulated topics without care. Medical, financial and legal topics must be presented responsibly and not as professional advice unless the host is qualified and appropriately disclaims.
Encouraged
Talk shows, interviews, education, hobbies, faith and inspiration, business and entrepreneurship, entertainment, family and lifestyle, news and commentary, community conversation. Anything that fits a wholesome, general-audience network.
How the bar is applied
Approval reviews the plan for a program when you apply to host. Live is live, so the same standards are enforced in real time through moderation. A program approved on its concept is still responsible for keeping every broadcast within these standards.
What happens when a program falls short is set out in enforcement and strikes, and every decision can be appealed once.
